Highlights and Applications:

The Philips Master LED GU10 Spot Light is a low wattage but bright LED Spot light.

Spot Lights are an easy upgrade from the short lived, inefficient, hot halogen spots to the new LED Technology. Philips Master LED GU10 Spot can directly replace an GU10 230V halogenspot with power up to 15 Watt. This means you can keep all your current lighting fixtures or just purchase those that meet your design tastes.

  • Philips Master LED Spot is for GU10 socket
  • Color temperatures are Warm White (2700k)
  • Working voltage is 230VAC
  • The viewing angle is 25º
  • The lamp is not dimmable
  • Not compatible with every fixture due to size (see datasheet under "Tech Specs" tab for details and dimensions).

From an esthetic point of view LedRise.com recommends installing LED Spot Lights in fixtures which are open and match the colors of the spot light used. In this way the fixture together with the LED light create a modern, decorative item that can give more personality to the room.

Typical home applications:

Lighting design calls for use of multiple light sources to light a space, in this way light can be effectively directed to areas where is needed and can create multiple lighting scenarios based on the occasion - work, reading, conversation, watching a movie, relaxation, entertaining guests and so on. LED Spot Lights create "pools of light" which are used to attract attention to an object or area in the home, guide people through hallways or entrances or provide task lighting for activities such as working, reading, eating, cooking and so on.

TIP! Install LED Spot Lights closer to the walls of the room so the light beam washes over them. Lighting the room's walls will make it seem more spacious and bright.

LED Spot Lights can be used in many types of lighting fixtures:

  • Down Lights. As the name suggest a down light is a fixture embedded in the ceiling and which directs the light to the area directly beneath it.
  • Ceiling spot lamps. These lamps use one or more lamps installed in a "bouquet" or straight line. All lamps can be oriented to the zones that need more light.

Room by room guide:

Dining Room: use a number of down lights to light the dining room table. Place a hanging lighting fixture over the center of the table for atmosphere. Use ceiling spot lamps to light up paintings or framed pictures on the walls.

Living Room: LED down lights or ceiling spot lamps can be used to light the coffee table (task lighting - very good when you are watching a movie), lounge chair for reading or attract attention to an area or item (fireplace, couch, book shelves, family pictures, souvenirs, collectable, other decorative items). If the living room seems a little cramped just light the walls and it will look much bigger!

Bedroom: Task lighting for the wardrobe, vanity or the reading area.

Bathroom: Task lighting over the sink or light the walls to make the space seem larger.

Hallways: LED down lights or ceiling spot lamps can be the only light sources for narrow hallways because their beam angle is wide enough to light the whole floor.

Commercial and business applications:

  • Corridor lighting. Hotels are the most interesting application for LED Spot Lights because they usually use hundreds of them to light their long corridors 24 hours per day.
  • Other public areas such as lobbies, stairwells, where the light is always on.
  • Showcase lighting.
  • Downlights, fixtures, wall and up lights to give personality to a space in a restaurant, bar or cafe.

Warm White or Pure (Cold) White?

  • Warm White (2700K – 3000K) light creates a cozy, intimate atmosphere which is, in general, preferable for homes. However, if your home color scheme (walls, furniture, decorations) is based a lot on black & white or very pale colors we recommend Pure White. Warm White Spots gives off a yellowish light that helps enrich the warm colors in your home, like Red, Orange, Yellow and materials such as wood. Warm White is suitable for lounges, hallways and bedrooms – areas for relaxation.
  • Pure White (3000K-5000K) is usually good for working environments as it promotes productivity and give us the ability to see contrasts. This makes it ideal for work areas such as kitchens, laundries, workshops and offices (not to mention being great for reading lamps).
  • Cold White (6000K) bulbs appear to have cooler or ‘bluer’ light and are generally used for special applications only. They may be used in lighting when special effects or a 'cool' appearance is required.

Why choose this product ?

The Philips Master LED GU10 Spot is a long lasting, efficient LED lamp.

Over the classic Halogen Spot:

Large energy savings: Upgrade to LED Light Spots and you can cut your lighting energy bill by as much as 5 times! A classic bulb makes more heat than light and its average light efficiency is around 10 lumen/Watt compared to the Philips Master LED GU10 Spot which has an efficiency of 44 lumen/Watt.

Huge replacement savings: A Philips Master LED Spot can last up to 35.000 hours which is up to 70 times more the Halogen Spot. Because Halogen Spots get hotter than incandescent light bulbs they often fail sooner because the fixture cannot effectively handle all that heat. If we consider the average cost of a Halogen Spot and of the time needed to replace it at around 1.5€ you will spend up to 105 € just to replace one light bulb in your house. Consider also the amount of waste produced and costs to process it.

Unlimited ON/OFF: The oldest working Light Bulb is operation since 1901 and is installed in a fire house in California. Beyond the obvious luck factor which made this bulb last 110 years there is one very important aspect: the bulb was almost never turned OFF. When a Light Bulb is turned ON the gas inside ignites and in many cases this explosive reaction destroys the filament and thus kills the bulb. LED Bulbs do not have this problem; you can turn them ON and OFF as much as you want.

Over the Fluorescent (Economic) Bulb

Currently no Fluorescent Spot Lights exist because of problems with the light source size: no fluorescent lamp is small enough to be installed inside a reflector. However in the commercial and business sectors down lights with fluorescent lamps are widely used. So a comparison with the LED spots is still in order.

Light focused effectively: LED Spots use precision optics to direct light which are at least 90% effective, down lights with fluorescent lamps use a reflective inner casing which is around 50% effective.

Better light: Light quality is expressed by the Color Rendering Index (CRI) where the maximum possible (best) is 100 and the worse is 0. Sunlight and incandescent light have a CRI of 100. A light source with CRI is below 79 can affect the quality of life because the colors of objects, people, fruits, vegetables and so on are not seen correctly by the human eye. If CRI is bad fruits will appear less fresh, skin not so healthy and clothing will have a completely different color - a deep red in a poorly light department store will be something else under the sunlight.

Many Fluorescent Bulbs have a CRI lower than 70 while Philips Master LED has CRI 80.

Better design: A twisted milky white glass tube does not look that appealing. The same can be said for the down lights that use them which are large and mostly white and round. On the other hand Philips LED Spots can be installed in any lighting fixture build for halogen which gives you a more diverse choice of shape, style and color.

Resistant to shock: Thanks to modern semiconductor technology, Philips Master LED lamps are  resistant to mechanical shock and vibration. They have a special acrylic coating which considerably reduces the risk of breakage. This avoids the danger of getting injured by broken light bulbs.  Fluorescent Bulbs easily break and the gases contained inside are also dangerous for people!

No UV radiation: Fluorescent Bulbs produce UV radiation when in use and UV has a harmful effect on color pigments and plastics. Organic colors fade and plastic becomes dull and brittle. Philips LED light Bulbs do not produce UV radiation.

Instant light: Many Fluorescent Bulbs need some minutes to reach the maximum brightness while all LED Bulbs start at 100% immediately

Eco Friendly: Fluorescent Bulbs contain mercury which is a very dangerous substance for human health and the environment. For this reason Fluorescent Bulbs need to be disposed in special places. LED Bulbs do not have this issue.

Over other LED Spots

Better LEDs: Philips uses Lumileds Luxeon LEDs for its LED light bulbs. Lumileds (USA) was the first company to mass produce high power LEDs and today is the largest producer of such lamps.

Longer lifetime: These LED Bulbs will last over 35.000 hours
